We have paused sign-ups of new customers on all of our recycling schemes.
We have paused sign-ups of new customers on all of our recycling schemes.
After careful consideration, we regret to announce that Magpie Recycling will be discontinuing the Greenbox, and all other recycling schemes with immediate effect. This decision has not been made lightly, and we assure you that we tried every possible avenue.
We understand that this may come as a disappointment, and we want to express our deepest appreciation for the trust and support you have shown us over the years. Serving you has been a privilege, and we are truly grateful for your loyalty.
Could all customers please cancel their standing orders and direct debit mandates. If you would like a refund, please email info@magpie.coop and this will be arranged. Any monies not claimed will be used to offer redundancies to our hard working members, so it would be greatly appreciated, if you’d like to give us a final show of support.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.
A weekly kerbside collection service for all your recycling needs.
An ad-hoc recycling service for customers not on Greenbox roads.
A safe and reliable shredding service.
Magpie's GreenBox is Brighton and Hove's original/alternative kerbside recycling collection that started in 1996. We currently collect from around 1200 customers through out the city using our electric vehicles.
Why choose a Greenbox if you already have the Council's black box?
We collect weekly. This means you won't have as much recycling in your kitchen or on your doorstep.
We collect a wider range of materials. This includes most types of plastics, textiles, tetra packs/juice cartons & aluminium tin foil.
We don't ship any of our materials abroad. Everything we collect is recycled as locally as possible.
Friendly reliable service. All our workers are part of the cooperative. They are always happy to answer any questions you may have.
We use electrical vehicles where possible powered by green energy.
How much does the Greenbox scheme cost?
The Greenbox costs £30 per quarter, payable in advance. This works out to £2.30 a week.
Why do we need to pay to recycle materials?
Many years ago when Magpie Recycling first started, we used to receive payment for all of our materials. Unfortunately, in recent times this has changed - we now need to pay companies to take our recycling from us.
How do I join the Greenbox scheme?
If you are interested in joining our Greenbox scheme, please email info@magpie.coop. Please note, a lot of our rounds are currently full and we can only sign up customers if we have the space on the round.
The Opt-In Scheme is an ad-hoc collection service by Magpie, available to customers in Brighton, Hove, Portslade and Woodingdean. This is ideal for customers not on an active Greenbox street, or customers who produce less recycling than the average household.
How much does the Opt-In Scheme cost?
When you open an opt-in account with us, we ask that you make a £20 payment onto your account. We charge £2.50 per bag we collect, and when your balance reaches £0.00 we email you to top-up.
How do I book a collection?
To book a collection, you simply email info@magpie.coop and you'll be given a collection date. Collections are usually within a week or so of emailing, however we attend some areas less frequent then others so the wait-time could be longer.
If you would like to find out more information regarding our opt-in service, please email info@magpie.coop, or call the office on 01273 684425.
The paper shredding service offered by Magpie is available to customers all around Brighton and Hove. We charge £7 per bag we collect, and these are slightly smaller than the average bin liner.
We securely store these on site, and they then go to a local company based in Hassocks for shredding.
If you would like to arrange a paper collection, or would like further information, please email info@magpie.coop, or call the office on 01273 684425.
