Recycling Faqs & Guidelines

Magpie is a community co-operative, aiming to bring about significant environmental change. By following our guidelines you help us to do this.

• Paper – including newspaper, magazines, writing paper, envelopes, junk mail, and telephone directories. If you have shredded paper that isn’t confidential, this can go in bags.
• Cardboard – We take all types of food packaging including cereal boxes, egg boxes, ready meal sleeves etc. Please flatten and bundle or bag.
• Cans (food and drink) – rinsed and put in a carrier bag.
• Glass jars and bottles – rinsed and no broken glass as we sort by hand.
• Plastic bottles – all types and colours
• Other plastics – we can take plastics 1-5 if they are food punnets or meal trays, we cannot take 1-5 that is plastic film or bags.
• Aluminium foil – clean meaning no baked on food or dripping in grease.
• Textiles – clean and dry only.
• Tetrapaks – juice cartons, milk cartons etc.

• Plastic film or plastic bags – regardless of the number on the bottom.
• Polystyrene
• Food waste
• Batteries

• Please ensure your materials are out by 7am; some of the drivers leave very early so the night before is always best!
• Please ensure your box/bags are left in a visible place, as close to the kerbside as possible. If this is not possible please contact the office
• Please keep materials separated within the box or bag. You can be creative with this, cardboard boxes within the box or bags would be fine to separate. Carrier bags are also fine but will be returned to you as we cannot recycle plastic bags.
• If materials are left in your box or bags, it is likely that we are unable to take the material. It could also be that the material isn’t clean or separated from others. Please contact the office if you have any queries regarding this.
• Please let us know of any changes to your circumstances, or if you want to stop the service please contact the office.
• Over Christmas periods, we do close for a few weeks. We will always collect any extra materials you may have after this.
• If we miss your recycling, we will do our best to come and collect as soon as possible. We do operate within a tight schedule though, so if your recycling is missed it may be collected the next week.
